Texty is a powerful platform designed to enhance Phase II E9-1-1 services by enabling text communication in addition to voice calls. It provides both Text-to-911 and Text-from-911 capabilities, allowing emergency responders to receive and send text messages during a 911 call. The Texty 17.5 version includes automatic language translation, supporting 108 languages that are instantly converted into English for the 911 call taker. When voice communication is not possible, INdigital’s Texty platform ensures that help is still within reach.

Can I send a text to 9-1-1?

Yes, you can text 9-1-1 where text-to-911 service is available. The FCC provides a list of areas supporting this service.

How do I text 9-1-1?

  • Open your phone’s messaging app (do not use third-party texting apps).
  • Create a new text message and enter “911” in the recipient field.
  • In the message body, include your emergency and location (do not use abbreviations, and avoid attaching images or videos).
  • Press “Send” to submit your message.
  • You will receive a response from the 911 center within 20 seconds to one minute.

When should I text 9-1-1?

Text-to-911 should only be used if you are unable to make a voice call or if making a voice call could put you in danger. Remember, voice calls are generally faster and more effective than texting.

      • Your phone must be capable of sending text messages. Test it by sending a text to a friend or family member
      • Text-to-911 is not a priority service and may be delayed. Messages are limited to 160 characters.
